I was listening to pundits at MSNBC cover Obama-Biden VP announcement. Guys, Biden is doing a great job of wooing those older White women who feel slighted by Obama's victory over Clinton.
Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Chuck Todd, Howard Fineman, and others did NOT "get it." Most thought the comment was "odd" or another Biden gaffe.
Nah, Biden's remark..."My wife is drop dead gorgeous." That's the money quote for the Obama-Biden campaign. When women over 50 heard the comment, many thought, well, how sweet.
The stubborn Hillary voters are women over 50. At 50, a lot of women become self conscious about their looks. For Biden to enthusiastically compliment his wife of 30 years, he really captured the attention of this group.
I am a woman in my early 40s with girlfriends over age 50. I spoke to two of my girlfriends about Biden's speech, they like Joe. ( I'll confess that I have never been much of a Biden fan, but he seems to be a good fit for Obama. I will support the ticket.)
There's something about Joe Biden. The pundits were poking fun at Biden for jogging up on stage to the microphone. One of my girlfriends said, "I thought he was so cute running up on stage. He reminded me of someone in my family with that nice smile."
Joe Biden. Cute? Who'd thunk it?
Score one for Obama. Apparently, putting Biden on the team is reassuring to older White voters. One of my girlfriends said, many whites feel left out of the process. Biden reminds older Whites and ethnic Whites that they will have a seat at the Obama table.
Finally, the Obama-Biden team can really attack the social conservatives. Both Obama and Biden are devoted family men. I, for one, am happy to "turn the page" on the sex scandals, which have plagued the Democrats. I have had my fill of watching heartbroken wives stand besides their husbands as they admit extramarital affairs with prostitutes and young naive women.
